Yokohama dialling codes: landline and mobile

Dial your international exit code, then +81 for Japan, then the local number without the leading zero.

  • Yokohama landlines use area code 045. From abroad, dial +81 45 xxx xxxx.
  • Mobile phones start with 090, 080, or 070. Dial +81 90 xxx xxxx (drop the first zero).

Every number shares the same clock. Yokohama runs on Japan Standard Time (JST), UTC+9, all year. Japan does not observe daylight saving. Your windows hold steady for half the year, then jump when your own clocks change.

When should I call Yokohama from the US West Coast?

Your morning does not work. Los Angeles sits 17 hours behind Yokohama in January and 16 hours behind in July. Your AM is Yokohama’s late night.

Call 16:00-18:00 Pacific Time. That reaches 9:00-11:00 JST the next day.

Dial between 4 PM and 6 PM your time. Yokohama picks up at 9 AM to 11 AM the following morning. Right as the business day begins. Offices open at 9:00. Most meetings happen before lunch. A connection at 9:00-11:00 JST catches people at their desks, checking messages and taking calls before the midday break.

Skip 8:00 AM PT. That hits 1:00 AM JST. Nobody answers.

Noon PT lands at 4:00 AM JST. Still deep night.

Your late afternoon is the only overlap that functions.

When should I call Yokohama from the US East Coast?

New York runs 14 hours behind Yokohama in January and 13 hours behind in July.

Call 19:00-21:00 Eastern Time. That reaches 9:00-11:00 JST the next day.

Dial between 7 PM and 9 PM Eastern. Yokohama answers at 9 AM to 11 AM the next morning. Same logic as the West Coast, shifted later because New York is three hours ahead of Los Angeles.

Avoid 9:00 AM ET. That is 23:00 JST. Most people are home or on the last train. Your evening is their morning. That is the only usable overlap.

When should I call Yokohama from the UK?

London lags 9 hours behind Yokohama in January and 8 hours in July.

Call 8:00-10:00 GMT. That reaches 17:00-19:00 JST in January.

Phone in your morning and reach Yokohama in their late afternoon. Japanese offices run until 17:30 or 18:00. A call at 16:00 JST lands well within standard hours. People are finishing tasks, returning calls, winding down.

Do not dial at noon GMT. That is 21:00 JST in January or 20:00 JST in July. You are phoning after hours. Some staff work late, but do not count on it. Stick to 8:00-10:00 your time.

When should I call Yokohama from Paris?

Paris is 8 hours behind Yokohama in January and 7 hours behind in July.

Call 8:00-10:00 CET. That reaches 16:00-18:00 JST in January.

The window is your morning, their late afternoon. Offices are still open. The rhythm is the same as the UK, but the gap is one hour narrower. Do not push past 10:00 CET. After that you risk hitting the evening break.

When should I call Yokohama from Australia?

Sydney is 2 hours ahead of Yokohama in January and 1 hour ahead in July.

Call 10:00-12:00 AEDT. That reaches 8:00-10:00 JST.

Phone between 10 AM and noon Sydney time. Yokohama answers at 8 AM to 10 AM, the very start of the day. This window is tight. Australia sits ahead of Japan, so your late morning catches Yokohama as offices open. Australian afternoons also work, but 10:00-12:00 AEDT gives the best shot at reaching someone before meetings stack up.

Skip 8:00 AM AEDT. That is 6:00 JST in January. No one is there.

15:00 AEDT hits 13:00 JST, lunch hour or early afternoon. It can work, but the early window is more reliable.

How DST in your country shifts the call window

Japan never changes its clocks. Your country does. The gap between Yokohama and your city is not fixed.

  • US and Canada spring forward on the second Sunday of March and fall back on the first Sunday of November.
  • Europe advances to summer time on the last Sunday of March and returns on the last Sunday of October.
  • Australia starts daylight saving on the first Sunday of October and ends it on the first Sunday of April.

When your clocks go forward, you lose one hour of difference. When they go back, you gain one hour. The windows above use standard time (January figures) and summer time (July figures) for your location. If you dial in March or October, check which side of the switch you are on.

Calling from New York in July means Yokohama is 13 hours ahead. Calling from New York in January means 14 hours ahead. Your 19:00 ET call in July reaches Yokohama at 8:00 JST, not 9:00. Still inside the good window, but the edge moves.

Does it matter if I call a Yokohama mobile or a landline?

Mobile numbers start with 090, 080, or 070. Landlines use 045. The time zone is identical. Mobile calls may be answered more flexibly. Many Japanese professionals share their mobile number and take calls outside standard hours if arranged.

Do not assume a mobile number means you can dial anytime. The cultural expectation is still to phone within business hours unless you have agreed otherwise. Use the windows above for both.

Business hours and cultural timing

Japanese business culture expects punctuality. Arriving 5 to 10 minutes early for a meeting is the norm. For a phone call, dial on the dot or one minute early.

Standard office hours in Yokohama are 9:00-17:30 or 9:00-18:00, Monday to Friday. Lunch runs 12:00-13:00. Avoid calling during that hour. People are eating, running errands, or taking a real break, not answering the phone.

Evening connections are common when dealing with Western counterparts. Asian offices often accommodate overseas schedules. If your only overlap from the US or Europe is late afternoon their time, use it. 16:00-17:30 JST is still a productive window.

Do not call on Japanese public holidays. The main ones that affect business in 2026 are New Year’s Day (1 January), the Golden Week cluster (29 April through 6 May), and the year-end period (29 December through 3 January). On those days even people who normally answer their phones will not.
